# Create a Recently Installed smart folder

Use New Smart Folder to add a changing group for apps recently installed on your Mac.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Right-click empty space in the grid.

1. Open New Smart Folder.

1. Choose Recently Installed.

1. Use the folder as a place to review new additions over time.

## What to expect

The folder’s membership follows its smart rule rather than a collection you manually maintain. It is useful when you remember adding a tool but not its final grid position.

Smart folders and ordinary folders have different purposes. Keep a permanent project collection in a manual folder if you do not want membership to change as app information changes.

## If the result is different

If an app is not in the group, search by name and inspect its installation location. Recently Installed is not a complete list of every application on the Mac. Removing a smart folder is separate from uninstalling the apps it shows.
