# Understand overlapping automatic layout rules

An active CubbyPad Focus Filter takes priority; matching display rules are preferred over ordinary time rules.

## Follow these steps

1. Note the layout currently showing.

1. Check whether a Focus with a CubbyPad filter is active.

1. Inspect matching display and time rules under Settings › Layout.

1. Disable or edit one overlapping condition at a time and retest.

## What to expect

You can explain which condition is choosing the grid instead of assuming a manual switch failed. A display connection and a scheduled interval can both be true at once.

The automatic selection concerns layouts. The physical screen on which the grid opens is controlled separately in Opening, even if a monitor is also used as a rule condition.

## If the result is different

If several rules express the same routine, keep the configuration simpler and choose the condition that best reflects intent. When reporting a mismatch, include the active Focus, connected displays and relevant interval rather than only a screenshot of the final page.
