# Restore CubbyPad’s automatic opening shortcut

Use Automatic in the Shortcut card to stop using a custom recording and let CubbyPad select its normal opening combination.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Open Settings › Opening.

1. Find the Shortcut card and the recorded combination.

1. Choose Automatic when the option is shown.

1. Read the resulting shortcut and test it from another app.

## What to expect

The custom recording is replaced by CubbyPad’s automatic choice. With Spotlight assigned Command–Space, the launcher uses Shift–Command–Space; freeing Command–Space lets the automatic choice use it.

Automatic is useful when you have forgotten which custom combination you recorded or want the normal setup after experimenting. It does not restore every other Opening preference.

## If the result is different

If the displayed combination differs from what you expected, inspect Spotlight’s keyboard shortcut. Keep a visible entry point in the Dock or menu bar while changing shortcuts. Check the actual recorded value instead of relying on an old screenshot of Settings.
