# Take an app out of a grid folder

Drag an app past an open folder’s edge to return it to the grid without uninstalling it.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Open the folder and enter arrangement mode.

1. Drag the intended app beyond the folder edge.

1. Place it at the destination on the page.

1. Check whether the remaining folder still contains the group you want.

## What to expect

The app leaves the launcher folder and remains installed. A manual folder left with one app turns back into that app, matching the familiar grid behavior.

Option-arrow keyboard movement can take the picked icon out past a folder edge too. Use the route that makes the destination most predictable for your input method.

## If the result is different

If the folder vanishes after removing an app, inspect its remaining content before assuming data was lost. If you accidentally choose Move to Trash, stop and read that separate confirmation; taking an icon out of a folder does not require uninstalling anything.
