# Open an app’s recent document from search

Search for an app in CubbyPad to inspect its recent files beneath the app result when that information is available.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Type the application’s name in Search or Ask.

1. Look beneath the application result for recent files.

1. Choose the intended file to resume work.

1. Use the app’s own recent menu or Finder if the file is not listed.

## What to expect

You can reach a recent document without first opening an empty application window. This is a contextual result list, not a complete index of every file on your Mac.

Applications expose different recent-document information. A file may also have moved, been renamed or become unavailable on a disconnected drive since its last use.

## If the result is different

If a recent entry fails, locate the actual document and confirm its storage is available. A missing recent result alone does not mean a file was deleted. Keep document backups separate from backups of the launcher’s app arrangement.
