# Move an app to another grid position

Drag an app while the icons wobble, or use Option-arrow keys to move the picked icon.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Hold an icon to enter arrangement mode.

1. Drag it to the intended space on the page.

1. Alternatively, pick an icon with arrows and move it using Option plus an arrow.

1. Finish arranging and open the app from its new position.

## What to expect

The app has a new place in the launcher. It stays installed in its existing Finder location and keeps its own documents.

Dropping directly onto another app can create a folder instead of a neighboring position. Check the result before moving on to the next change.

## If the result is different

Use Command–Z if the drop created an unintended folder or moved the wrong icon. For a cross-page move, use the page-edge technique or Move to Page instead. If you meant to relocate files on disk, use the app’s normal installation guidance rather than the grid.
