# Read the memory-pressure light

The Memory light beside Settings shows green, yellow or red pressure and opens a view of running-app memory use.

## Follow these steps

1. Enable Memory light under Settings › Grid › Memory if it is hidden.

1. Read the light beside the Settings gear.

1. Click it to inspect the running applications.

1. Save work before quitting an application you no longer need.

## What to expect

You can investigate current memory pressure rather than judging resources from the number of installed app icons. Green indicates memory is fine; yellow and red indicate increasing pressure.

Quitting an application can release its active resources. CubbyPad does not claim to clean memory by forcing the system to read the same data back from disk later.

## If the result is different

If you need more disk space, use storage and Cleanup information instead. A large installation size is not its current memory use. Check the running workload before treating every red light as a reason to uninstall software.
