# Return F4 to its normal macOS behavior

Turn off CubbyPad’s F4 key option when you want that key to stop opening the app grid.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Use the Dock, menu bar or another shortcut to open CubbyPad Settings.

1. Choose Opening.

1. Turn F4 key off.

1. Test F4 outside CubbyPad and keep another grid-opening method enabled.

## What to expect

CubbyPad stops using that key as an opening control. Quitting CubbyPad also releases its F4 handling while the application is stopped.

The normal action depends on the keyboard and macOS configuration. This setting does not assign a new system action to the key; it only controls whether CubbyPad intercepts its opening role.

## If the result is different

If the key still behaves unexpectedly after disabling the option, inspect the keyboard’s own function-key settings or other software that remaps keys. Avoid changing several tools at once: test after each change so you know which application controls the result.
