# Record a different CubbyPad opening shortcut

Record your own key combination in Settings › Opening if the automatic opening shortcut does not suit your workflow.

Last updated 26 October 2026

## Follow these steps

1. Open Settings › Opening and find Shortcut.

1. Click the displayed shortcut to enter recording mode.

1. Press the combination you want to use.

1. Read any warning, then test the combination from another app.

## What to expect

The recorded combination opens or closes CubbyPad while it is running. Start with a combination you can remember and that your everyday apps do not already depend on.

The initial automatic shortcut is Shift–Command–Space while Spotlight owns Command–Space. A custom recording is a separate preference; you can return to Automatic instead of reinstalling the launcher.

## If the result is different

If an existing app responds first, inspect that app’s keyboard shortcuts and choose a combination without a conflict. Use the Dock or menu bar to return to Settings while testing so a failed recording does not leave you searching for the old combination.
