# Plan an app layout for video-editing sessions

Keep the editing, audio and review tools accessible without confusing a launcher layout with media storage, project state or export progress.

## Organize around stages you actually use

Editing, audio work and final review may use different app groups. Make the first group small enough to start a session without opening every utility installed for an occasional conversion. A layout can contain both primary tools and a separate supporting folder.

## Keep media availability visible in your process

The launcher opens the app; it does not copy project media onto the Mac or reconnect missing files in an editor. If software or footage lives on an external disk, verify that disk through the normal application and Finder workflow.

A dimmed external-drive app placeholder preserves an icon position. It is not an offline installation, just as a layout backup is not a backup of footage.

## Review background work before quitting apps

An editor exporting in the background may not have been frontmost recently. CubbyPad’s idle-app and memory views provide information, but they do not decide whether that job is complete. Save work and inspect ongoing exports before quitting a process to reduce pressure.

## Verify the whole opening sequence

1. Launch the primary editor individually.

1. Open a real project through the editor.

1. Bring in supporting apps only as needed.

1. Save the useful arrangement separately from the project’s own media backup.

[### Make a new Mac’s app grid feel familiar

Bring a known CubbyPad arrangement over, then verify the installed apps, source locations and license instead of relying only on matching icons.

A saved arrangement describes apps and positions, while the destination Mac has its own installed software and available drives.

Sync shares the current arrangement between Macs. A backup preserves a deliberate recovery point you can identify and restore later.
