# Undo app grid changes before starting over

Command–Z reverses CubbyPad arrangement changes. Use a saved layout backup when you need a recovery point that survives a larger reorganization or a move to another Mac.

## Try Undo after an unwanted move

A dropped icon can create a folder when you meant to move it beside another app. A sort can replace an arrangement you liked. In CubbyPad, Command–Z lets you reverse grid changes instead of manually rebuilding the previous positions.

Shift–Command–Z redoes a change. Check the grid after each action so you know which arrangement you are keeping. Undo is most useful while the change is still clear in your mind.

## A backup has a different job

Undo is a way to reverse editing actions. A layout backup is a file you deliberately save and can restore later. Do not assume Undo is a permanent archive of every arrangement across restarts, reinstallations or a different Mac.

Before a large sort, an import or a replacement layout, use Back Up… in Settings › Layout. Keep the file somewhere you can recognize and retrieve.

## Use a small recovery routine

1. Save a backup of a layout that already works.

1. Make one group of changes.

1. Check a few familiar apps and folders.

1. Use Undo if the changes were a mistake.

1. Save a new backup once the revised layout is useful.

## Check what kind of action you are reversing

Moving icons is different from moving installed apps to the Trash. A layout restore does not recover an uninstalled application or its documents. Read any removal confirmation separately and use the appropriate file recovery method for files outside the arrangement.
