# The first Mac installation and signed app updates are different

CubbyPad’s initial macOS approval step is separate from the signature checks used by its built-in update mechanism.

## Approve the intended initial download

Download CubbyPad through its official site and move it to Applications. If macOS cannot verify the app, the installation guide explains the one-time Privacy & Security approval for that copy. Check the named application and source before approving it.

## Use the app’s update flow for later releases

CubbyPad checks for updates and accepts releases carrying its own update signature. The initial Open Anyway sequence is not normally repeated for those signed updates. Read the offered release information rather than assuming an old installation message describes every future update.

Checking automatically is another separate preference. Turning daily checks off does not make unsigned updates acceptable; it changes when the app looks for a release.

## Keep the installed version identifiable

Settings › General shows the version you have. Compare it with What’s new when investigating a fix. Both Solo and Duo include the 1.x update line, but that statement should not be expanded into an unstated promise about every future major version.

## Report the actual stage that failed

1. Identify first install versus an in-app update.

1. Record the exact macOS or updater message.

1. Note the installed CubbyPad version.

1. Preserve layout backups rather than deleting data to investigate a download problem.
