# Choose the right layout when iCloud and a Mac differ

Inspect the two arrangements before selecting this Mac’s or another device’s layouts. A quick backup makes that choice easier to reverse.

## Read the prompt as a data choice

When enabling sync finds different existing organization, CubbyPad can ask whether to use the other device’s layouts or this Mac’s. The device name identifies the competing source. This is more consequential than a routine notification that sync has started.

## Preserve the version you have not inspected

Before replacing the local arrangement, save it through Back Up… if you need to retain it. Inspect the other Mac when you do not know which set contains the desired folders. Cancel is available to turn sync off while you make that decision.

Avoid choosing opposite sources on both machines in quick succession. That makes it harder to identify which arrangement you intended to keep.

## Check a recognizable sample after choosing

1. Confirm the selected source.

1. Allow time for iCloud Drive delivery.

1. Open a familiar folder on each Mac.

1. Search for an app whose custom name should match.

## Describe the remaining mismatch precisely

Tell support which device had the desired version, which choice you selected and which folder now differs. You do not need to send private project documents or a full license key. A backup and a clear explanation are more useful than repeatedly replacing both data sets.
