# Make app labels readable on a large monitor

Check label visibility, name size, grid density and backdrop contrast at normal viewing distance instead of judging only the icon artwork.

## Begin at the distance you actually work

A large display can show more detail while sitting farther away. The useful check is whether you can read an app’s name from your normal seat. A close-up screenshot cannot establish that comfort for your setup.

## Keep labels visible while comparing

In Grid settings, choose the App names behavior and then a suitable Name size. Always-visible names give you a consistent cue when several apps have similar artwork. Hover labels reduce density but require an additional pointer or keyboard selection to reveal the text.

Icon size changes the drawing; Name size changes the label. Adjust them separately so you can tell which change improved recognition.

## Leave enough room for the name

Try fewer columns or roomier spacing when a page is difficult to scan. Compare a plain background against the current wallpaper to identify a contrast problem. A more decorative backdrop is useful only when the app names remain clear over it.

## Inspect a varied sample

1. Compare short and long app names.

1. Open a crowded folder.

1. Check original icons and any chosen pack.

1. Retain the combination that stays readable across those cases.
