# Closing the app grid is different from quitting CubbyPad

Close the grid when you want to return to work; use Quit when you intend to stop the launcher and its opening controls.

## A hidden grid can remain ready

Escape, an empty-space click or the opening shortcut can close the grid while CubbyPad stays running. That is useful because the next shortcut or gesture still has an application ready to handle it. You do not need to relaunch the installer for every app-opening session.

## Quit deliberately when the controls should stop

Use CubbyPad’s app menu or menu bar Quit command to stop it. Its F4 handling and other opening controls are then unavailable until the app runs again. A key returning to its ordinary system behavior after Quit is therefore expected.

Quitting does not uninstall the apps displayed inside the grid or deactivate the license. Those are separate commands and should be treated as such.

## A later login can start it again

If Open at login is enabled, CubbyPad can return after signing in even though you quit it in the previous session. Turn that preference off when you want to stop automatic startup, rather than repeatedly deleting visible icons.

## Match the action to your intention

- Return to the current task: close the grid.

- Stop the launcher process: use Quit.

- Move a license: use Deactivate.

- Remove the application: follow the uninstall steps after saving the organization you want.

[### The first Mac installation and signed app updates are different

CubbyPad’s initial macOS approval step is separate from the signature checks used by its built-in update mechanism.

Save a layout backup, keep the purchase key, and distinguish replacing the app from removing its separately stored organization.
