# Open an app’s recent files from your launcher

Search for an app in CubbyPad and its recent files can appear underneath. Use that route when you want to return to a document rather than just launch an empty app window.

## Sometimes the document is the destination

Opening an editor is only the first step when you really want yesterday’s document. An app’s recent-file results can shorten that route. In CubbyPad, search for the application and inspect the files shown beneath it.

This works best when you remember which app you were using even if you do not remember exactly where the document was saved. It is a contextual starting point rather than a replacement for organizing your files.

## Check the app and the file together

1. Open CubbyPad and type the app’s name.

1. Inspect its recent files beneath the app result.

1. Choose the intended file rather than the app result when you want to resume that document.

1. If it is not listed, use the app’s own recent-document menu or locate it in Finder.

## A recent list is not a full file index

Not every app exposes the same recent-document information. A file may also have moved or become unavailable since it was last opened. An absent result does not mean the document was deleted.

If a document lives in cloud storage or on an external drive, make sure that location is available. Check the actual file before treating an old recent-file entry as proof that a current local copy exists.

## Use a name that helps the next search

Give documents meaningful names in the app where you create them and keep their storage location deliberate. Recent-file access is convenient, while clear names and backups help when a file is no longer recent. Both habits support finding your work again.
