# Moving a license is different from syncing a layout

Activation gives a Mac access to CubbyPad. A backup or iCloud sync brings over the arrangement. A smooth move handles both.

## Start with the activation count

Solo allows one active Mac and Duo allows two. If the old Mac occupies the last available seat and will no longer use CubbyPad, deactivate it in Settings › License before activating the replacement with the same key.

## Bring the organization through its own route

Save and restore a layout backup or enable the intended iCloud Drive sync. Those routes concern pages, folders and associated organization. They do not increase the number of activations your key permits.

Equally, activating a key does not automatically choose which of two existing arrangements should win a sync prompt. Inspect and preserve the organization you want before replacing it.

## Check the installed tools too

The new Mac needs its own app installations and available source locations. A restored folder can describe the organization without supplying every application or document behind it. Launch a familiar tool and open real work before considering the move complete.

## Handle an unavailable old Mac through support

1. Use the purchase email to contact support.

1. Include an order reference and explain which Mac is unavailable.

1. Keep the full key private.

1. Use a saved layout file independently if the old machine can no longer supply its arrangement.
