# Why an imported app layout can look different on another Mac

A saved arrangement describes apps and positions, while the destination Mac has its own installed software and available drives.

## Compare the two inventories

An older layout may describe an app that is absent from the destination. The new Mac may also contain applications installed after the source arrangement was saved. An import therefore has to reconcile organization with the software actually available now.

## Understand the import’s stated behavior

CubbyPad’s restore and import dialogs explain their handling of unavailable and newer apps. A backup restore skips apps not on this Mac and places apps installed since at the end. LaunchNext import follows the same practical distinction between source membership and the current installation list.

Do not judge the result only by the first page. Newly available apps can appear later even when the familiar early folders were preserved.

## Check discrepancies before replacing again

1. Search the missing app by its actual name.

1. Verify its installation in Finder.

1. Reconnect any external app drive.

1. Read the import message and inspect the later pages.

## Keep both recovery and source copies

Back up the current CubbyPad arrangement before another replacement and keep the original import source unchanged. If you need help, name the import type and the specific missing app. Repeatedly restoring a source that names unavailable software will not install that software for you.

Sync shares the current arrangement between Macs. A backup preserves a deliberate recovery point you can identify and restore later.
