# Keep occasional Mac utilities easy to find

A rarely used tool can still be essential. Give occasional utilities a deliberate search name or folder before deciding they should be removed.

## Recency is only one signal

A device updater, seasonal accounting tool or specialist file utility may be used infrequently because the task itself is infrequent. A Not Opened Lately result is a useful review prompt, but it cannot decide whether the next use still matters to you.

## Choose a memorable entrance

Keep occasional tools in a clearly named folder or hide their page icons while retaining search access. Use a distinct launcher name if the official product title is hard to remember after several months.

Avoid a generic folder that becomes a dumping ground for every unfamiliar app. A label such as Device tools gives you a reason to look there when that task returns.

## Investigate before uninstalling

Check what the app controls, whether its original download remains available and whether it holds data you need. Moving an icon to another page is reversible organization; removing the installation is a separate decision with possible effects on that occasional workflow.

## Leave a clear record for the next session

1. Use a recognizable app or folder name.

1. Test the utility before a time-sensitive task.

1. Keep relevant documents outside the launcher backup.

1. Review its prominence in the grid without equating low frequency with no value.
