# Hide, uninstall or remove leftovers: three different Mac actions

Hiding changes your grid. Uninstalling removes an application. Reviewing leftovers concerns separate support files. Decide which result you want before using Cleanup.

## Hide when the app should stay installed

Use Hide from Grid when an icon clutters your pages but the software should remain available. CubbyPad keeps hidden apps available through search, and Settings › Hidden Apps lets you bring them back.

Hiding is useful for occasional utilities. It does not free the installation’s disk space, close a running process or hide the app from Finder.

## Uninstall when you no longer need the app

Move to Trash removes the application after confirmation. Before doing that, check for documents, exports, subscriptions or device tasks that still depend on it. The app’s icon and the work made with it are not necessarily stored together.

macOS system apps can only be hidden in CubbyPad. A cleanup tool should not be treated as a route to remove protected parts of the operating system.

## Review support files individually

Apps may leave settings or caches behind after removal. CubbyPad shows exact paths and lets you choose leftovers separately. Read those paths and keep anything you still need rather than treating every associated file as disposable.

Cleanup moves chosen items to the Trash. Emptying the Trash later is a separate decision, so inspect it before turning a reversible cleanup into permanent removal.

## Choose the smallest action that solves your problem

1. For a crowded page, try a folder or Hide from Grid.

1. For an app you no longer need, review and uninstall it.

1. For leftover files, inspect the proposed paths individually.

1. Save important data before removal and check the result before emptying the Trash.
