# Find Mac apps with initials instead of full names

CubbyPad can match app initials and typing mistakes: “gc” can find Google Chrome, and a misspelling such as “chorme” can still lead to Chrome.

## Type what identifies the app

Opening an app should not require its full product name every time. CubbyPad searches names, word beginnings and initials, so a short query can be enough. Open the grid, begin typing and inspect the results.

For example, “gc” can find Google Chrome. A typing mistake such as “chorme” can also match Chrome. These are search conveniences rather than an instruction to memorize special commands for each app.

## Add a little more when several apps match

Short queries are naturally ambiguous on a Mac with many apps. Two letters may fit more than one name. Use another letter or pick the intended result with the arrow keys rather than assuming the first match is always the one you wanted.

App nicknames offer another route when the name you remember differs from the app’s displayed name.

## Keep the sequence on the keyboard

1. Open CubbyPad with your chosen shortcut.

1. Type the app’s name, a word beginning or its initials.

1. Use the arrows to choose a result.

1. Press Return to open it.

1. If the result is unclear, add more of the name before launching.

## Initials search does not require Apple Intelligence

Matching an app name is different from asking which app fits a task. Name search works without Apple Intelligence. A request such as “edit photos” uses the optional task-suggestion feature on a supported Mac with Apple Intelligence enabled.
