# Does CubbyPad require Apple Intelligence?

No. The app grid, ordinary search, folders and layouts work without Apple Intelligence. Plain-language task suggestions and model-based organization have additional requirements.

## The launcher works without an AI model

CubbyPad requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later. You can open its grid, create folders, move apps, switch layouts and search by name without enabling Apple Intelligence. Those are ordinary launcher features.

A missing language model should not be confused with a missing app or a license problem. Test a direct name search first if you are unsure which part of search is available.

## Task descriptions use Apple Intelligence

When Apple Intelligence is enabled on a supported Mac, a phrase such as “edit photos” can produce suggestions for apps suited to that task. CubbyPad uses the on-device model for this feature.

Organize can also use that model to suggest folders. Without it, Organize falls back to apps’ App Store categories. The resulting folders can still be reviewed before you apply the arrangement.

## Voice search is a separate system

The microphone uses macOS speech recognition and needs microphone and speech permissions. It is separate from Apple Intelligence task suggestions. On-device recognition depends on the Mac; macOS may use Apple’s servers when on-device recognition is unavailable.

## Check requirements for the feature you need

- For the grid and basic organization, check the macOS version and active CubbyPad license.

- For task suggestions, check Apple Intelligence support and whether it is enabled.

- For voice input, check microphone availability and speech permissions.

- Use typed names when optional AI or speech features are unavailable.

## Put it into practice.

### Find apps, files and answers with search

Use names, initials, nicknames, sums and System Settings keywords. Run a Shortcut or open an app’s recent files from the same field.

### Organize apps into folders automatically

Preview the folders before anything moves, then keep the result or put the old grid back with Undo.

### Search for apps with your voice

Click the microphone or press Command–D, say what you need, and let a pause finish listening.

## More on search and keyboard.

[### Find Mac apps with initials instead of full names

CubbyPad can match app initials and typing mistakes: “gc” can find Google Chrome, and a misspelling such as “chorme” can still lead to Chrome.

CubbyPad lets you rename apps in the grid and search using the names you choose. Use a memorable task or shorthand when the official app name is not what comes to mind.

Type a calculation into CubbyPad’s Search or Ask field, then press Return to copy the answer. Basic calculations work without Apple Intelligence.
