# Back up the grid before using automatic organization

Save the arrangement, preview Organize’s proposal, and review a few familiar groups before treating the new layout as your daily setup.

## Preserve the organization that already works

A crowded grid can still contain useful positions you remember. Save a backup through Settings › Layout › Back Up… before applying a broad organization change. Verify that the file was saved rather than assuming clicking the command guarantees a recovery copy.

## Read the proposal as a starting point

Organize previews suggested folders before it applies them. With Apple Intelligence enabled on a supported Mac, the model can group apps by purpose; otherwise App Store categories supply the fallback. Inspect the proposed membership instead of judging only the folder titles.

A category can be technically reasonable but still differ from your work. Rename or move apps afterward to reflect tasks you actually repeat.

## Check a short set of familiar tasks

1. Find the daily app you usually open first.

1. Open a folder with several related tools.

1. Search for an occasional utility.

1. Use Undo if the proposal makes those routes less clear.

## Save the result only when it is useful

After the arrangement survives ordinary use, make another backup with a recognizable date. Keep the earlier one long enough to compare. Organize edits the launcher; it does not reorganize Finder documents, uninstall apps or remove the need for their own project backups.

## More on app organization.

[### Make app labels readable on a large monitor

Check label visibility, name size, grid density and backdrop contrast at normal viewing distance instead of judging only the icon artwork.

CubbyPad can arrange page movement side to side or up and down. Test the direction with your normal mouse, trackpad and keyboard routes.

A folder in CubbyPad groups app shortcuts in the grid. It does not relocate the installed applications or organize your documents in Finder.
