# Applications folder or app launcher: what is the difference?

Applications holds installed software in Finder. CubbyPad provides a separate arrangement of icons used to find and open that software.

## Keep installation and organization distinct

An app bundle in Applications is part of the software’s installation. Its icon in a launcher is a way to reach it. Moving an icon between CubbyPad pages does not move that bundle into a different Finder folder or change where its documents are saved.

## Use Finder when location matters

Finder is the place to inspect the actual app file and its location. A launcher is useful when the question is which app to open or which tools belong together for a task.

This distinction also explains why hiding an icon does not uninstall software. CubbyPad’s Hide from Grid preference changes a browsing view, whereas Move to Trash concerns the selected installation and asks for confirmation.

## Tell the launcher about another app location

If you keep apps in a custom folder or on another disk, inspect Settings › Layout › App Folders. Add a relevant source or enable Apps on other drives rather than repeatedly dragging installer images into the grid. A configured location must still be available when its apps are needed.

## Choose the appropriate action

- Need the app’s location: inspect it in Finder.

- Need a task group: make a launcher folder.

- Need fewer icons: use Hide from Grid.

- Need to remove software: review its uninstall or Trash operation separately.
