# Keep your app launcher ready after signing in

Install CubbyPad in Applications, enable Open at login, and inspect any macOS approval so the shortcut has a running app to reach.

## An opening shortcut needs a running launcher

If a shortcut works after manually launching CubbyPad but not immediately after signing in, start with the login item. The keyboard assignment may be fine; the app simply may not have started yet. Confirm the installed Applications copy opens normally before changing shortcuts.

## Configure startup deliberately

1. Open Settings › General.

1. Turn on Open at login.

1. Review a Login Items approval request if one is shown.

1. Sign in again when convenient and test the ordinary opening route.

## Background readiness does not mean a full-screen interruption

CubbyPad waits in the background so the grid can open when requested. Starting the launcher is different from launching every app in a folder or opening an entire work session automatically.

Keep a Dock or menu bar entrance available. It provides a way to inspect status when a shortcut is unavailable on an unfamiliar keyboard.

## Separate activation from startup permission

A license screen on first access means the app needs activation or a license check; it does not necessarily mean the login item failed. Read the actual state in Settings and report whether the process started, which screen appeared and which opening method was tested.

CubbyPad’s initial macOS approval step is separate from the signature checks used by its built-in update mechanism.

First activation requires a connection. An already activated license has a limited offline grace period when a later check cannot connect.
