# App grid folders vs Finder folders: what actually moves?

A folder in CubbyPad groups app shortcuts in the grid. It does not relocate the installed applications or organize your documents in Finder.

## A launcher arrangement is a separate layer

Dragging an app into a CubbyPad folder changes where you find it in CubbyPad. The application remains installed in its existing location. Your documents, downloads and Finder folders are separate from this arrangement.

This distinction makes it easier to experiment. You can put your writing apps together without moving application bundles around in Applications or changing where those apps save your work.

## Create a group you can recognize

1. Open the grid and hold an app until the icons wobble.

1. Drop it onto another app to create a folder.

1. Give the folder a name you would look for during an ordinary task.

1. Drag in other relevant apps, then finish arranging.

## Name folders for your work

A folder called Writing may be more useful than a broad category such as Productivity. Choose names that answer a question you actually have: where do I edit photos, make a recording or start a development session?

An app can be relevant to more than one activity. Separate layouts let you express those different contexts without reorganizing the installation on disk.

## Removing a group is different from uninstalling

Move an app out of a launcher folder when you want it elsewhere in the grid. Hide from Grid changes visibility. Move to Trash removes an installed app after confirmation. Check which action you selected before assuming you only changed the arrangement.
